The words of one of the Greatest Teachers to have lived on earth, emphasizes the fatherly care for those who heed his suggestions. One needs to make worry about the basic things of life totally unnecessary.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”
The main idea in the word translated “worry” is “distracting or anxious care.” This Great Teacher related that a certain woman, who had welcomed him in her house, was “worried and upset about many things.”
But told her to relax by saying that “Only one thing was necessary.”
On the other hand, another writer, said, “Do not be anxious about anything.”
The word worry appears many time in this particular passage.
For those who trust in the Maker and Designer of this marvelous Universe, worry is unreasonable, uncharacteristic, unproductuctive, and unprofitable. It does not make sense.
“Why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies and the flowers of the field grow: They do not labor or spin.“, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.”
What might you be doing or not doing indicates either a lack of trust or great child-like trust in that Maker of this Infinite Universe.
